Privacy Policy
Your privacy matters to us. Below you can read, in plain language, what data 1001 Games processes, why we do it and what you can control yourself.
1. Who are we?
1001 Games (1001Games.ca) offers free online games. In this privacy policy, we explain what data we process when you visit our website, why we do it and what rights you have.
Have a question about your data? Get in touch via the contact page. We usually reply within two business days.
2. Playing without an account
You can play every game without an account and without leaving your name or email address. In that case we only store the technical data needed to make the site work and keep it secure.
Think of your IP address (shortened where possible), the type of browser and device, the pages you view and how long you stay on the site.
3. Data with an account
If you create a free account, we store your email address, an encrypted version of your password, the date of birth you enter when signing up and, if we have them, your nickname and gender. That lets us link your high scores, favourites and comments to you. Your nickname can be visible to other visitors; your email address, date of birth and gender are not.
We also use your email address to keep your account secure: we send you a link to confirm your account, a link if you've forgotten your password and a login code when you log in. We send these emails through our email service (Scaleway, in the EU). If you choose 'Remember this device for 30 days', we place a cookie so you don't need a login code on that device for 30 days.
Did you have an account on our previous website? Then we carried over your email address and, if you had filled them in, your nickname, date of birth and gender, so you can keep using the same account. We did not carry over your old password: you choose a new one yourself via the link we send you or via 'Forgot your password?'. Don't want that? Let us know and we'll delete your account.
We also keep track of which of our websites you created your account on. You can log in on all our websites with the same account.
You can delete your account yourself at any time via the account menu ('Delete account'). We then immediately erase your email address, password, nickname, date of birth, gender, favourites and recently played games, and send you a confirmation by email. Anonymous statistics, such as how often a game has been played, are kept but can't be linked to you.
4. Why we process data
We use data to make the games work, remember your preferences and progress, prevent abuse and cheating with high scores, and measure which games are popular so we can improve what we offer.
We also process data to show ads, which is what lets the site stay free.
5. Cookies and similar technologies
Necessary cookies keep the site working: they remember, for example, your login session, your language choice and your saved game progress. You can't turn these off without the site working less well.
Statistics cookies help us measure visitor numbers. Advertising cookies can be placed by our advertising partners to show more relevant ads and to keep you from seeing the same ad too often. For non-essential cookies we ask for your consent; you can withdraw it at any time via your cookie preferences.
6. Advertising
We work with advertising partners who can process data themselves, such as your IP address and advertising ID. Without your consent, we only show non-personalized ads.
Their own privacy policies apply to the processing by these parties. In your cookie preferences you can see which partners we use.
We show ads through Google AdSense. Google and its partners use cookies to show ads based on earlier visits to this and other websites. In Google's ad settings (adssettings.google.com) you can turn off personalized ads; at www.aboutads.info you can also find the options of other advertising companies. More explanation is at policies.google.com/technologies/ads.
Many games come from GameDistribution, part of Azerion, and also show ads inside the game. On those game pages, we load a script from Azerion that matches the in-game ads to the rest of the page. Azerion and its advertising partner Improve Digital may process data such as your IP address and advertising ID in the process, and Azerion measures usage with Google Analytics. This happens according to your cookie preferences. You can find more information in Azerion's privacy policy at azerion.com.
7. Third-party games
Some of the games are loaded from the servers of outside developers. Such a game can receive technical data needed to load and run, such as your IP address and browser type.
We choose our game providers carefully, but we have no influence over their own processing. Unsure about a specific game? Let us know.
8. Children
Our site is also used by children. That's why we don't ask for more data than needed and don't show ads aimed specifically at children. On the pages of games for kids, we ask Google to treat our ads as directed at children: no personalized ads and no remarketing.
Children under 13 can play every game without an account, but can't create one. That's why we ask for your date of birth when you sign up: if you're under 13, we don't create an account and don't keep what you entered (in line with the guidance of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, which asks for a parent's consent under 13, and the US Children's Online Privacy Protection Act, COPPA).
Are you 13 to 15? Then only create an account with permission from your parents or guardians.
If we find out that we have personal information from a child under 13 anyway, we delete it right away. Parents can always ask us via the contact page to see or delete their child's data.
9. Retention periods and security
We don't keep data longer than necessary. We keep account data for as long as your account exists; log files and statistics are deleted or anonymized after 26 months at most.
We secure the site with encrypted connections (https), hashed passwords and access restrictions. Nothing is sold to third parties.
10. Your rights
You have the right to access your data, have it corrected or deleted, restrict the processing, object to it and have your data transferred. You can also withdraw any consent you've given at any time.
Send your request via the contact page; we'll handle it within four weeks. Not satisfied with our answer? Then you can file a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (priv.gc.ca) or, if you live in Quebec, with the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec (cai.gouv.qc.ca). The person responsible for the protection of personal information is the management of 247 ERP B.V.; you can reach them at info@247erp.nl.
11. Changes
We may update this privacy policy, for example if the site changes or if the law requires it. The date at the top shows when we last changed something.
If there are important changes, we'll say so clearly on the website.
